Housing Day at the Capitol on March 14th is one of the most important days for our industry all year. The event gives a chance to make a difference not only for those that work in the housing industry, but Minnesota homeowners as well.
We have two main goals for Housing Day at the Capitol:
The event starts at the InterContinental Saint Paul Riverfront with lunch and a quick overview of this year’s issues before we head to the Capitol. From there we’ll load up the shuttles for our scheduled meetings with our legislators.
Round trip shuttles provided between the InterContinental Saint Paul Riverfront and the Capitol complex.
A guest speaker! This year’s Housing Day at the Capitol reception will feature a special visit from legendary political analyst Charlie Cook. With the expected exciting election year we have ahead this is your chance to get an experts insights. Be sure to stay for the legislative reception after your meetings to hear what he has to say.
Addressing the Construction Industry Workforce Shortage – support legislation that addresses the workforce shortage that is having a serious impact on the ability to meet the current demand for housing by promoting job opportunities in the construction trades.
Advocate for Homeowners and Homeownership as Minnesota Address Tax Conformity – We will be engaged in the federal tax conformity discussion that will be occurring in response to the Federal “Tax Cuts & Jobs Act,” which was passed by Congress and signed into law by the President in late December. As the Legislature considers changes to Minnesota’s tax code, MN REALTORS® and Housing First Minnesota will be there representing the interests of our members, including being strong advocates for homeowners and homeownership.
Improve the Online Continuing Education Experience – support legislation to repeal the Internet continuing education seat time requirement in order to allow real estate licensees and appraisers to complete courses at their own pace.
Enact Critical Consumer Protections for Residential PACE Loans – support legislation, in collaboration with our Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) issue coalition partners (Minnesota Bankers Association, Minnesota Credit Union Network, Legal Aid, and Center for Energy & Environment) that addresses the critical homeowner protections that need to be enacted before any residential PACE loan programs are authorized in Minnesota.
