Governor Tim Walz officially took office as Minnesota’s 41 governor on Monday, Jan. 6. With the new administration comes new cabinet-level appointees.
Several of these appointments include individuals to lead agencies that regulate Minnesota’s housing industry:
Nancy Leppink, Minnesota Department of Labor & Industry
Leppink is the branch chief for the Geneva, Switzerland-based International Labour Organization.
Jan Malcom, Minnesota Department of Health
Malcom is the current Commission of Health, having been appointed to that post by then Governor Dayton last year.
Laura Bishop, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency
Prior to her appointment, Bishop led Best Buy’s sustainability and corporate responsibility efforts.
Nora Slawik, Metropolitan Council Chair
Slawik, a former state legislator, is the mayor of Maplewood.
DLI Website Readied For Draft Building Codes
The Minnesota Department of Labor & Industry has added the 2020 building codes to its online directory of active rulemaking initiatives. While the draft codes are not yet available, the documents will be posted here once released.
In addition to tracking code changes online, you can also signup for code-related email updates.
Noticeably absent from the list is a new residential energy code. Last year, BATC-Housing First Minnesota sent a memo to DLI requesting the state not adopt a new, costlier energy code and instead allow the housing industry to prepare a performance path alternative to the prescriptive approach.
